neurendal is a creative code atelier. Thirty years of games, festivals, campaigns and products, done by hand. Now with machines. We build our own things, and take on a few for other people.
About
- A machine knows everything and has never been surprised. A person knows less and is surprised daily. Put them in one room.
- Taste is the bottleneck, not compute. Everyone has the same models now.
- Small products, finished properly. No roadmap theatre.
- If it can't be explained in one line, it isn't done yet.

Strik lets you give a gift card for any local shop, from the hair salon to the car wash, even when they don’t have one themselves. The recipient unwraps it online and always gets the full value.

A web app that fills the gaps in your festival day: one suggestion plus a reason, steering you toward acts, food and art you would not have picked yourself. From idea to 1100 installs in ten days, tested at Lowlands. All user data deleted itself after the weekend.

A butler for your swimming pool. One industrial PLC and one elegant app bring the pump, heating, water quality, cover, counter-current and lights together, on top of the equipment that is already there. It runs entirely on the local network, the PLC checks the sensors before every command, and pool builders can supply it under their own name.

A live carillon concert powered by the Hive blockchain, on the bells of Amsterdam's Zuiderkerk during HiveFest 2022. Vote for a track with HIVE or HBD and it climbs the play queue; carillonneur Gideon Bodden rang the winners out over the city from the tower.

The control system behind Harlingen's whale fountain, an 18 metre sperm whale by Allora & Calzadilla from the 11 Fountains project. Natural random patterns, bounded by sun position and operating hours, drive the pumps and compressor; AIS monitoring makes the whale spout for ferries leaving for the Wadden islands. An API and web app handle maintenance and management.

Hackathons, games, campaigns and apps for social media sites like Facebook and Hyves. Mobile apps for iOS and Android: Tales & Tours, Shoudio, Dull, Natuurmonumenten, IVN, Soundtrackcity. For Sonic Aggregator, Soundtrackcity's interactive listening artwork in Amsterdam and Berlin, we built the iPad interface. Event marketing and Chief Digital Officer at TodaysArt Festival.
